Project profitability: revenue, cost and margin
Honest Day reports revenue, cost and margin by project, client or person from the hours people track, using the billing rate on the project and each person's cost rate. Budgets in hours or fees alert you before a project overruns. Profitability reports are part of Premium.

Where the numbers come from
- Revenue from billable hours at the project's rate (by project, task or person), fixed fees, and billable expenses.
- Cost from each person's cost rate, the same rate used for contractor statements.
- Margin is revenue minus cost, shown by project, client or person, with hours, billable percentage and uninvoiced time alongside.
Budgets that warn early
Set a budget on a project in hours or fees, with a monthly reset if you want one, and an alert percentage. The Budgets report shows hours and fees burn and flags projects at 80% and 100%. These budgets and the Budgets report are available on every plan; profitability is the Premium part.
Sharing without exposing rates
Any report can be shared as a read-only link. For time and budget reports you can hide rates and amounts, set an expiry, and revoke the link. Dashboards, free on every plan, can show budget burn and utilization; a saved report on the Profitability tab shows the Premium lock on the free plan.
Fixing a rate after the fact
If a rate was wrong, reprice the uninvoiced time on a project. Time that has already been invoiced is not changed.

Where do I set a person's cost rate?
On the person in Team. Contractor statements use the same cost rate, so the numbers agree.
Who can see margin?
People with the right role. Members see their own rows and no money; reports with rates can be shared with rates hidden.
What do I get on the free plan?
Reports with KPIs and CSV export, budgets and the Budgets report, dashboards, and contractor statements. Profitability reports are Premium.
