Time tracking without screenshots or surveillance

Honest Day never takes screenshots, logs keystrokes, tracks apps or websites, or scores activity. Hours are what people say they worked, with notes.

Last reviewed October 2026. The full policy is on the privacy page.

What Honest Day never collects

  • Screenshots or screen recordings
  • Keystrokes or mouse activity
  • Which apps or websites someone uses
  • Activity scores, productivity rankings or leaderboards

This is also written into the privacy policy.

What it records instead

  • Time entries that people start, stop or type in, with the client, project, task, tags and notes they choose.
  • Whether a week has been submitted, approved or sent back, and the hours on it.
  • Who is tracking what right now and today's totals, visible to people who manage the workspace. That is the extent of live visibility.

Idle time, without watching

If a timer keeps running while someone is away, Honest Day asks them when they come back whether to remove that time. It is a question, not a log of what they were doing.

How managers keep an eye on the work

  • Weekly timesheets that people submit, and managers approve or send back with a note. Approved weeks can be locked.
  • Notes on entries, so the hours say what they were for.
  • Budgets in hours or fees with alerts at set percentages, so overruns show up early.
  • A Friday reminder email for anyone who has not logged their week.
  • Reports by client, project, task, person and tag, with profitability for the people who need to see it.

Approvals, time off, profitability reports and report emails are part of Premium. See pricing.

Who this is not for

If your policy or your regulator requires activity monitoring or screenshots, Honest Day is the wrong tool. It does not offer them. It also does not track in the background: hours are entered by people, or by the assistant when they ask it to.

Questions

Does Honest Day take screenshots or log keystrokes?

No. Honest Day takes no screenshots, logs no keystrokes, tracks no apps or websites and scores no activity, on any plan. Hours are entered by people, with notes.

Does Honest Day have any monitoring at all?

No screenshots, no keystroke logging, no app or website tracking and no activity scores. The only live view is who is tracking what right now, and today's totals, for people who manage the workspace.

What happens when someone walks away from a running timer?

If a timer keeps running while someone is away, Honest Day asks them when they come back whether to remove that time. It does not record what they did.

What does the Chrome extension do?

It adds Start timer buttons inside Gmail, Shopify admin, Slack, OpenPhone and Google Docs. When you press one, it suggests a note from the page you are on, such as an email subject or an order number, which you can edit. It is a convenience for starting a timer, not a tracker.

What about analytics on your own website and app?

The privacy policy describes the product analytics: counts of actions, no cookies, no local storage, no session recordings and no capture of clicks, keystrokes or text, and it respects Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. Read it on the privacy page.

Who is Honest Day not for?

Teams or industries that must monitor activity or capture screenshots by policy or regulation. Honest Day does not offer those features and does not plan to.
